Will a GSM Quad-Band Phone work in Europe? And Do I need to talk Fido™ first before i use it in Europe?

Just wondering if I need to talk to Fido before I use my GSM Quad-Band Phone in Europe? Or will it just work and Roaming charges will apply? Need this answer Quickly!

GSM Quad bands should automatically roam (of course provided you have a international roming service with your phone). Phone normally picks up the network whoever your service is affiliated with. If you happen to have more than one option, your quad phone should give you the option to choose or you can do this “manually”.

I recently bought a Nokia 3250 and its a tri band GSM phone, i wanted to know wherether it would work in USA?

I bought the phone in India and was just wondering if it would work in the USA. Most carriers in the U.S. are GSM like Cingular and T-Mobile, so i was just wondering since it was a tri-band phone. Any help would be appreciated

If its tri-band, then probably it supports the 900 MHz band (GSM 900), the 1800 MHz band (GSM 1800) and 1900 MHz band (GSM 1900). T-Mobile and Cingular operate in the GSM 1900 (and GSM 850 but your phone doesn’t do this). So, in theory, the phone is OK. Whether or not it will actually work depends on which SIM card and network operator you have service with. Of course, put a TMObile or Cingular SIM in the phone and go the US, it will work. If you have a SIM from an Indian network operator, then whether it works or not depends on the roaming agreements – check with your network operator.

Is there a good unlocked quad-band GSM phone with Java support that is not too expensive?

I don’t use phones much but I want a phone that I can use in the USA and Europe.

I need to run a Java program (a midlet).
I don’t plan to get a contract. I will buy prepaid minutes.

Go for a second hand Nokia phone which will support .java apps but i’m not too sure which phones nokia offer with Quad band other than the new latest phones!!!

unlocked triband phone.. i want to make sure it’ll work in another country?

i’m going to rome and i want to buy a phone before i get there. i read that all i need is an unlocked triband gsm phone.

i saw a few on ebay, but how do i make sure that the phone will work over there? is there anything specific i should be looking for?
