10 ways to learn Hebrew… fast
Everybody wants t learn another language. The problem is that most of us don’t have the time to “spend” on learning a new language.
Roni Rosenthal-Gazit, the author of: “101 Let’s Have Fun -101 fun activities that reinforce learning the Hebrew language” gathered for us a list with 10 fast ways to learn the Hebrew language.
1. Listen to music in Hebrew. Pick 3-4 songs that you like in Hebrew and listen to them over and over again. Learn to sing them by heart.
2. If you are a “beginner” – start with pictures book in Hebrew. Read the book over and over again. Use a dictionary (a regular or an online dictionary). Make sure you understand and learn all the words before you keep on to the next book.
3. Play on-line Hebrew games. There are a lot of fun online games in Hebrew, like hangman, word search and more. The computer will give you the feedback if you are right or not.
4. Listen to books on CD’s in Hebrew. If you are not sure about some words, write them on a separate piece of paper, and look them up in the dictionary. From reading the books and listening to stories you can learn how sentences should be built in Hebrew.
5. Read newspapers in Hebrew. Try to understand the main idea in the article, and the connection to its title.
6. Try to find a friend or relative that speaks Hebrew. Schedule an hour a week for this assignment. Make sure not to “skip” this hour. Make sure you are having the conversations in Hebrew. Force yourself into answering you partner in Hebrew even if it’s not easy.
If you have a child, a grandchild or neighbor’s child who learns Hebrew make an effort to have a conversation with them. Children’s vocabulary is easier to understand. Share from the vocabulary you learned.
7. Plays the butterfly game – pretend you are a butterfly, and look around you in the room. Tell us whatever you can see in Hebrew. If you are not sure about some of the vocabulary write it down and find out it’s translation in the dictionary.
8. Children’s Hebrew dictionary – are available in any library, bookstores and more. Try to combine the words into sentences.
9. Story telling in Hebrew – yes, even if you are an adult there are computer programs that reads the stories out loud while presenting the words for to follow. You will also learn from that the right way to pronounce the words.
10. Bingo games, crosswords, word search puzzles and more will introduce you to new Hebrew vocabulary. Find those games and more in my new published book: “101 Let’s Have fun – 101 fun activities that reinforce learning in the Hebrew language”. http://www.101letshavefun.com/
